I’ve Been A Busy Bee!

First, I wanted to give you all the link to my ETSY shop, Designs by DogmomDiva.  I have been asked for it a couple of times and wanted to get it right out there.  It’s TIME to shop for the holidays…I was wondering if there would be any interest in an apron for Hanukkah?  I saw some beautiful fabric for a full sized or half hostess apron..just a thought and thinking ‘out loud’.  Let me know if you or someone might love one as a gift and I can get the fabric pronto!  And remember, a matching coffee cozy will be included with each order!

Update!

I haven’t posted any of my apron projects for a couple of months..I took a bit of time off from sewing, sometimes I just need to get away from whatever I am working on briefly.

I’ve been thinking for a few months about opening a shop on ETSY.   Part of the reason I have hesitated is open one as of yet is due to my insecurity.  Are my products good enough?  Will anyone even want to purchase any of my items?  Well..if I don’t try I will never know..So plan to open a shop this weekend when I have time to sit down and just DO IT.  As always, if you see an item here that you MUST  have, just let me know.  My email is bboyack1@yahoo.com.  Zip me a note and I will get it sent off to you!

Coffee Cozies

What does one do with leftover fabric?  I have a lot of it.  Lots, I tell ya..I could make a quilt.  But I don’t know how…yet (will be taking beginning quilt classes starting in April, woot!), or I could make some sets of fabric coasters, wow that is a great idea..but how about making some coffee cozies?  Instead of using the cheezy cardboard sleeve on your Starbucks cardboard cup, use one of these

Can You Say Apron?

A friend gave me the History of Aprons and I just love it!

I don't think our kids know what an apron is.

The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that ' old-time apron' that served so many purposes.

REMEMBER: Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool.

Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.

I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron.

My nana used to wear aprons, but I don’t recall my mom wearing one, so I am bringing aprons back!
